You’ll be adding folders, documents, files, and/or requests to your collaborations, which all need to be named. We have some suggestions on how to name your files so that they make sense to all participants throughout your collaboration.
Follow these simple suggestions for maximum clarity in your file names.
How to name your files
- Use concise filenames that will help your participants understand what’s been uploaded to the collaboration.
- It’s okay to use spaces! Short file names with spaces between words are easily readable in the card and list views.
- You don’t need to keep the original filename. If you rename a file when you upload a revision, version history will still be preserved.
- You don’t need to keep the file extension (such as .docx or .pdf). It will automatically be available when a participant downloads the file.
- Avoid use of the following characters, < > : " / \ | ? * , in your filenames.
